Well, chalk another win up for the people who dont like contracts, T-Mobile is offering the BlackBerry Pearl 2 for $299.99 with no contracts and no commitments, a completely "pay as you go" package. Of course the downside being that you have to drop a $300 large for that freedom. As of now this seems to be primarily a test run for pay as you go phones on T-Mobile, and while the original information was for New Jersey, going off various information this is becoming available in other areas as well, but you may want to call ahead or check before you may any plans.
Frankly, I think this is great and hope that all BlackBerry devices and all phones will soon fall under this pricing plan on this and other carriers. Unfortunately, I doubt it will be well received considering the large up front price tags on most devices these days. It seems that there is little room between getting shackled into a contract and paying a large up front cost aside from just getting a super low-end phone, but I have some hope someone will come up with a solution or some middle ground maybe pay as you go and monthly payments to pay off the device? . Regardless, I applaud T-Mobile a bit for this course of action and hope they expand soon.

Fusion Voicemail Plus for BlackBerry smartphones is out of beta announced PhoneFusion. The beta version is a free visual voicemail application which can be downloaded. This application enables BlackBerry users to centralize their voicemail boxes and see the full list of messages on the right of their BlackBerry screen.
Whats more, BlackBerry users can listen to their voice mails directly from their device. Users need not be PhoneFusion customers to access Fusion Voicemail Plus v 1.0 at the fusionvoicemailplus website. This service is free and included as a standard feature in the PhoneFusion One solution.
Users can look forward to new features in the service including Sync Fusion Voicemail Plus with OS profile notifications like custom ringtones and quiet mode. Message playback through headphones and deleting multiple messages in one go are other new features.
Fusion Voicemail Plus application can be downloaded from a link received on the device on signing up. The user can change from any other voicemail number to a PhoneFusion One phone number where multiple voicemail boxes are centralized. This is accessible from the BlackBerry device.
All the user has to do is listen to the voicemail from his or her smartphone when alerted by an audible, visual or tactile signal. All the voicemail messages are listed on the screen without going to other voicemail boxes. Fusion Voicemail Plus allows the user to access his voicemail from any Web browser or the traditional phone too.
Besides being free, the service does not limit the number of messages sent to user’s phones.
Users can find Fusion Voicemail Plus in any cell phone network for Windows Mobile 5 or 6. There are plans ahead for releases compatible with Palm, Symbian, Android and LINUX mobiles apart from a J2ME version.
With PhoneFusion One features like call forwarding, voicemail, virtual attendant, fax to email, conference calling and call screening, BlackBerry users can satisfy all their communication needs with just one phone number.

With the spotlight on the other Blackberry devices. i.e. Storm and Bold, Most of us sort of left the Blackberry Flip 8220 in the shadows. But we shouldnt underestimate this Flip after all it is the first flip phone from RIM. The 8220 hit stores in Oct and luckily enough I already encountered a one-on-one with this phone. The phone features two high-resolution, light-sensing color displays, SureType QWERTY keyboard, microSD/SDHC memory card slot and 2 megapixel camera. The phone looks sleek and has a chrome-finished frame.
The Blackberry Flip might not be as stunning and advanced as its big brothers storm and bold but this little packs a punch. Rumor is that soon there will be a Pink Flip available at Rogers before Christmas and a Red Flip coming to T-Mobile. This phone will be available for 50 bucks with a three year contract. I personally dont like the three year contract part. No doubt in my mind that soon it will be available in many other colors as well.

Its November and the year is coming to an end. And what a year its been!

Research in Motion stock is down again - I heard on CNBC this morning. Their showpiece, the BlackBerry Bold 9000, is already out on AT&T but for a hefty price of $299 which includes a rebate of $100 and requires a 2 yr contract. Price that versus the iPhone 3G that is at $199 and its a no-brainer for most of us who are going to be cost-conscious for the rest of this year and well into early 2009.
The BlackBerry Pearl 8220 flip phone is also out without much fanfare. I personally think this wasnt the right time for them to introduce a flip phone - 5 years ago it might have really hit it big time but that era has passed.
So, really the outlook for RIM is stormy and I use that word because it just so happens that I think RIMs best chance for a turn-around in this economy is going to be with the new BlackBerry Storm 9530 touch screen device coming out this month on the Verizon Wireless network.
If the Storm can be a hit, with a price tag of under $200, which is in line to compete well with the G1 and the iPhone, then RIM can start to breathe a sigh of relief. However, we really wont know for sure until the phone actually hits the market and until the holiday shopping season is over.
For now, I think the folks over at BlackBerry are standing around with baited-breath hoping and praying that they have done the right thing by introducing their first touch screen device. The key is going to be getting a new base of customers mostly non-enterprise to look at their device - "the iPhone crowd," if you will, and also to convince their existing loyal base to try out a touch screen phone.

First looks can be deceptive, so it seems with the clamshell BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220. Many feel that BlackBerry should have gone with a Slider form factor and not Flip, as sliders are more popular in a full keypad market.
Quite a large phone even when folded it is a far cry from the rest of the phones introduced by RIM with respect to looks. The design is a combo of a dignified upper half and a cheaper looking lower half. Matching classy design for the two parts would have made it look and feel great.
Being sluggish compared to other phones in this category with slow browsing speeds while navigating around the page it gets on our nerves when zooming in and out. However the BlackBerry OS is easy to use.
YouTube videos can be viewed in portrait form only and the performance of the Media Manager and camera are not fantastic as it should have been for all the hype created before its introduction.
Now for the goodies in the phone. Features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, BlackBerry Maps application no GPS by the way, and supported email solutions, assist during work. For play there is MP3, WMA, MPEG4 and more.
Not to forget its cool features like full HTML email, multimedia and web browsing and other smartphone apps. With such features the flip smartphone should have been a raving success.
But it is not to be so.
Supposedly consumer-oriented it does not meet up to the expectations of most consumers especially when they are taking the first step towards a smartphone. But if one is looking for a compact, ‘feels good in the hand’ kind of smartphone or if it is for young users desirous of enjoying a BlackBerry smartphone, then go for it.
Still the general feeling is that the BlackBerry Pearl Flip is priced exorbitantly high that too when customers are no longer interested in a FLIP smartphone.
