Good news for those back to school shoppers looking for great deals. Verizon Wireless has dropped the price of the HTC Touch Pro to only $99 with a new 2 year contract original price was $400+. Most other smartphones are now priced here as well, with the exception of the new BlackBerry Tour and Samsung Saga.
Now, the truth of the matter is that Verizons phones and plans have always been more expensive than some of the other wireless carriers out there. So, thats why this price drop is so surprising. Or is it really?
It seems to some people that Verizon is just trying to clear out its inventory for new phones that are due to come out late 3rd quarter. The one phone that is already confirmed to come out is the HTC Touch Pro 2. In addition, the BlackBerry Storm 2 is also expected to drop, although everyone at Verizon has been keeping mum on the release date. Our sources suspect the phone will come out in October - early 4th quarter, just in time for Christmas shopping season. Additional rumored phones include Android devices and of course, the iPhone, which always tops the list of rumors when talking about up-and-coming Verizon Wireless smartphones.
Also, lets not forget that Verizon just shortened their exclusivity deals with manufactures to allow smaller carriers to have the same phones sooner. This response came after some heavy questioning by FCC on carrier-exclusivity deals on popular top-notch handsets. By lowering the price, Verizon might be trying to seem favorable in the eyes of people who are on other wireless carrier networks.

Pretty straightforward about what kind of phone is being marketed towards who out of these two devices. The Diamond is obviously more for the person who like the Iphone type devices, while the Diamond is more of a normal device for people who like to do things the old fashioned way with a QWERTY keyboard. Like a lot of new devices coming out, its more about preference about how you want to operate it than most of its features.

Well... I dont know if I would call it an official announcement, but it was announced last Friday on HTCs twitter feed that the Touch Pro2 would be released in all major markets.
"And to answer the big question on everyones minds, the Touch Pro2 will be broadly available in all major markets, including North America."
While it was assumed that at least some of the new devices in the Touch line would make it, its exciting to see what have confirmation for one of the more exciting ones. There is no set release date for any of the new Windows Mobile 6.5 from HTC yet, but they will start to roll out the Touch Pro2 in the late second quarter.

The holidays are just around the corner and Im curious to know which mobile phones will be in high demand this season. Ive compiled a list of the top 5 handsets I think will be popular on this years wish lists. Lets see if your fave made my list.
On the number one spot, of course, is HTCs G1 anyone who has played with this sweet phone is sure to be craving some android action this Christmas. Not to mention, the rumored white version of the G1. Next on the popular list has to be the almighty iPhone 3G, I think it is an awesome phone and Im sure a lot of people agree with me on this, even though, the G1 currently has the spotlight. Third on my list is the Blackberry Storm. Although this device isnt out yet it is expected to be out sometime in November, and its Blackberrys first touch screen, need I say more? The Blackberry Bold comes in a t my #4. This baby packs a vivid screen with awesome features like a leather-type backing, perfect for people with a sense of stylish business. Last but certainly not least, is the HTC Touch Pro, a nicely styled phone with an interface to die for.
Basically Im basing my top 5 on the most talked about and latest phones that are within most of ours reach. So these are my top 5 picks this season and consider it part of my Christmas wish list too.

If you liked the HTC Touch Diamond, youll really like the HTC Touch Pro. Sprint launched this bad boy out last week on Oct. 19th. The HTC Touch Pro is almost identical to the HTC Touch Diamond, the only difference is that, the Pro comes with a full slide out QWERTY keyboard. The name pretty much says it all, Its an HTC touch series phone for a more professionallevel. The Touch Pro has all the features as the Touch Diamond, but with a few unique ones of its own.
The phones camera has a capability to scan your business cards, and input the info straight into your contacts. The camera is a 3.2 megapixel, that records video as well. My favorite is the gravity-sensor technology, that automatically rotates the Web page from a portrait to landscape view when the device is turned sideways.
Here are a few more specs for this phone:
Size: 4.17 L x 2.05W x 0.70 D
Talk time: 250 minutes
Battery: 1340 mAh Operating system: Windows MobileR 6.1 Professional
Display: 2.8-inch VGA touch screen
Camera: 3.2MP, with autofocus, flash and video calling
Internal memory: 512 MB flash, 288 MB RAM
Expansion slot: microSDTM memory card SD 2.0 compatible; supports up to 16 GB
Keyboard: Slide-out five-row QWERTY keyboard
Bluetooth: v2.0 with A2DP support Stereo Bluetooth
Wireless: Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
GPS: GPS/AGPS
Interface: HTC ExtUSBTM mini-USB and audio jack in one; USB 2.0 High-Speed Device Control: TouchFlo 3D
Quick thought- which phone will sell more, the Touch Diamond or the Touch Pro? let me know what you think.

I went to the Sprint website to browse for a smartphone for holiday gifting. The options are a bit limited with this carrier for a good all around phone and the two best ones that I saw are coincidentally made by the same company, HTC. Check out this link for full list of Sprints smartphones.

So, the price difference between the 2 phones, with a 2yr contract, of course, is $50. The HTC Touch Pro regular price is $579.99 minus $180 instant rebate and $100 mail in rebate which comes to $299 for the phone with a 2 year agreement. The Touch Diamond is $549.99 minus a $200 instant rebate and $100 mail in rebate which comes to $249 for the phone with a 2 year agreement.

What really is the difference between these 2 devices? Not that much when you compare them side by side on the Sprint website. The only benefit for the HTC Touch Pro that I see is that it has an external memory slot, which can make a difference if you run out of memory on your phone.

This is the non-technical, non-jargon best smartphones list for 2008 from Fommy.com. Weve seen every model and handset design thats come out this year and heres our faves.
These phones are in no particular order but all the ones on this list are #1 on someones list. As I always say, the best smartphone is the one that best fits your needs.
So here we go.
#1. Apple iPhone 3G
My take on this iconic phone is same as everyone elses... I loved it from the moment I saw it. A sleek design that actually lends itself to great technology. Apples phone is in every way simple to use and easy to enjoy. Web surfing is great and with the 3G speed its as good of a web experience as you can have on a mobile.
#2. RIM BlackBerry Bold
This king of mobile email is holding its own. The screen/display is amazing and at the same time its like your previous favorite BlackBerry. Easy to read and send emails this one is for the busy executive as much as it is for the stay at home mom. The battery life aint that bad either.

#3. T-Mobile G1
Whats a 2008 best smartphones list without the new baby? The G1 made by HTC premiered with a bang in Fall 2008 and it has been a crowd pleaser, especially since a full QWERTY keyboard slides out for easy texting, web searching, and emailing. And let me tell you, as much research as Google has put into developing the Android OS that the G1 runs on, its going to help us all in the long run whether we are currently using this phone or not. G1 is just a glimpse into the future of mobile technology.

#4. Samsung Omnia SGH-i900
The Samsung Omnia was marketed as an iPhone Killer and honestly speaking I think it is the best iPhone competitor on the market today. With a Windows Mobile OS and a 5 megapixel camera, I dont think there is anything that this phone cannot do. Plus the size is more compact than most of the touch screen phones in the market today.

#5. HTC Touch Pro
HTC was on a roll this year, coming out with great devices left, right, and center. The HTC Touch Pro is the best of their offering for this year. The device operates on Windows Mobile and has a great camera with LED flash. Plus, the ability to add extra memory thanks to a micro SD slot. And dont forget the full slide out QWERTY keyboard.
